A Letter to Young Me

Dear young me, I write this letter to let you know what you have overcome.

You have become a woman of great strength because you had to be strong.

I want you to know that despite growing up in a blended family, you survived it all.

You overcame the fact that you were treated differently after your couisn were born, and even your youngest aunt was born.

You were treated as an afterthought, so the trouble you got into so you could be seen again was not done to hurt you or anyone else; it was to be loved again.

Dealing with the bullying in school, you became stronger by laughing with them instead of being laughed at; it was not healthy, and you began to have suicidal thoughts by age 10.

You were then at 16, sent to live with your mother and Pops because you burned the bridge that was protecting you from the world you never had to see.

That was your wake-up call to grow up because you had to protect your young sisters from violence, and being in the environment of drug use by your parents.

In the time spent with your mother and Pops, you grew up to have a shield around you for the people who took you in when your mother left.

The truth was told to you after you got your own apartment, but before all that, you left and were homeless for about a year. You survived being almost raped by a so-called friend's father, but were saved by his girlfriend, and that's how you got your apartment.

You had to survive several domestic violence relationships because of what you saw at your mother's home to be normal, but you broke the generational curse.

You have lost some of the most important people in your life, but you're still standing in their memory and strength.

I want you to know you are not broken or ugly; you're loved, despite being mistreated throughout most of  your life.

You are a woman who has found love of self after doubting it for half your life, you have true friends, and family doesn't always mean blood.

At the end of this, you have come out better than most thought you would.

I want you to know that you are more important than you can imagine.

I love you!!
