Black History Month
I wasn't going to write this week, but with all the chaos happening in our government right now, I wanted to say something.
I have always questioned why we are celebrated in the shortest month of the year.
We have helped build a country and have been able to birth nations from our DNA.
We are the most underrated population in the world.
We are a proud people made of doctors, lawyers, inventors, mathematicians, etc.
Black History is to be celebrated in a way we can be proud of.
Oftentimes, we are the butt of jokes that are truly racist, but we are supposed to smile through it.
We fail each other every day by not being there to pick each other up when we fall short.
We need to remember what our ancestors fought for, so we can get to where we are today.
Respect the journey of those ancestors who hung from trees just for being black or because they spoke up from the injustice that we endured.
This black history month, I remember that my grandparents fought for our right to vote and sat at those lunch counters so we could be treated equally and be seen for more than the color of our skin.
Remember who you are and know that we are black and we're proud.
