Black Strength
The physical power, force, or durability.
I spent time over the weekend in New Orleans/Hammond, LA, and I had the honor and joy of spending time in the Tangipahoa African American Heritage Museum and Veteran Archives.
I had a beautiful conversation with the Outreach and Marketing director.
I must say that even though I was on vacation, this experience was probably the best part.
The stories and preservation of our black history and roots are truly amazing.
Many of these exhibits were truly both heartbreaking and eye-opening.
I've seen pictures of Emmett Till on TV documentaries, but it's a totally different
thing to stand in front of the exhibit and see the brutality of what another human being did to this young man's body and how his mother's brave choice didn't want the world to forget that brutality.
Black strength is what taught our ancestors to survive through every hateful atrocity done to us throughout history.
Hearing how my ancestors threw themselves in shark-infested waters instead of a life in chains to be sold off into slavery.
Black strength is the inventor of just about everything we use today, but because white Americans didn't want us to know and hide from us in the outdated history books.
Black strength is the focus of us to take back what was stolen from us through every shot fired to kill us, every roadblock to stop our success.
Black strength is for every time our ancestors or we marched for the right to not just be free, but for us to be seen and heard.
Black strength and black pride have carried us thus far, so my people we will keep fighting for our black strength!
